On the occasion of the MEDEF’s REF conference, Ifop surveyed the French public about their views on the service sector.

The survey reveals a sector that is firmly established in the economic landscape and enjoys a largely positive image. In particular, the French recognize the sector’s diversity of professions, its ability to create jobs, and its accessibility. Many also believe that services now play an increasingly important role in the French economy.

This favorable perception does not, however, obscure certain vulnerabilities. Jobs in the service sector remain associated with forms of employment that are sometimes viewed as more precarious, and, above all, their appeal seems to be eroding over time. A disconnect is thus emerging between recognition of the sector’s economic weight and the ability of its jobs to inspire interest.

Finally, the study highlights an issue of visibility: issues specific to the service sector still do not feature sufficiently in public debate.
