To mark the tenth edition of its survey conducted in partnership with Ifop, Alphabet France has released a new overview of commuting patterns among the French workforce.
The results show that in 2026, 74% of workers will use a car to get to work, a figure that has remained stable for several years. Public transportation is used by 23% of workers and sustainable modes of transportation by 27%, while 30% now combine multiple modes of transportation.
The shift toward electrified vehicles continues: 15% of drivers now use an electric or hybrid vehicle, up from 14% in 2025. Most notably, 60% of working adults would choose an electrified vehicle when they next replace their car, up from 52% last year. Interest in fully electric vehicles is growing particularly fast, rising from 17% to 24% of intended purchases.
Finally, commutes remain a key factor in quality of life and the attractiveness of companies: 29% of workers believe they have a negative impact on their quality of life, and 73% say that their commuting conditions influence their decision to apply for a job or stay with a company. Mobility solutions offered by employers also factor into the career choices of 68% of workers.
